The following describes the scope of services provided by the Telecommunications Department:

The Telecommunications Department supplies and maintains various forms of communication services including telephones, facsimiles, voice mail, patient telephones and telephone directories. Telecommunications is also responsible for the wiring infrastructure of the medical center for both data and voice communications. The Telecommunications Department provides maintenance and technical support for voice communications in all parts of the medical center and all satellite clinics. Requests for new telephone service as well as maintenance of existing lines and distribution of telephone equipment is coordinated by this department. Distribution and maintenance of pagers and support for the paging network is provided by Telecommunications.

In addition to answering the main number of the Hospital and Patient Information inquiries, the Call Center coordinates and directs all inbound telephone traffic. Staffed 24-hours-a-day, the operators process all calls including code calls, and initiate the Hospital Disaster Plan.
