The Department of Anesthesiology is comprised of anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists who provide services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We are committed to providing the highest quality of anesthesia care for all types of surgeries, including high-risk cases involving geriatric and pediatric patients.

During your surgical procedure, we ensure your comfort and safety and make informed medical judgments that protect you by treating and regulating changes in your critical life functions (i.e. breathing, heart rate, blood pressure).

The three forms of anesthesia you may be given include:

  • General Anesthesia
You are completely asleep and unaware of the procedure.
  • Moderate Sedation
You are sedated enough to have surgery without discomfort, but not in a deep sleep. Several short surgical procedures are performed with moderate sedation.
  • Regional Anesthesia
This includes spinal, epidural and regional block anesthesia. Only the area of the body where the surgery is being performed is numbed, and you are partly sedated and able to communicate during the procedure.

Prior to surgery, the anesthesiologist will evaluate your medical condition and formulate an anesthetic plan that takes your physical condition into account. It is vital that the anesthesiologist knows as much about your medical history, lifestyle and medications as possible.

The Department of Anesthesia staff prides itself on being highly-qualified, experienced, knowledgeable and courteous to all patients. We have state-of-the-art equipment and complete diagnostic facilities ensuring that each patient will receive the best quality care.
