Cardiology Division

The practice of cardiology at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is defined by the hospital’s mission statement and corporate values, the division’s philosophy and objectives, a variety of job descriptions, procedures and guidelines, as well as state regulations. The Cardiology Division provides quality care that meets each patient’s unique needs for the adult age group ranging from 18 years of age through geriatrics. Procedures are performed in the Cardiology Division or at the patient bedside when indicated.

Methods Used to Assess and Meet Patient Care Needs

The Division of Cardiology provides service to referring physicians who complete orders and requisitions for a procedure based upon diagnostic need. The study is performed by the Cardiologist and clinical staff members. The Cardiologist provides a report with his findings. The Division of Cardiology procedure request form must include definite clinical information. The exam requested must be appropriate for the clinical history. All services are provided in a timely manner.

  • Echocardiograms with Doppler
  • Stress Tests
  • Myocardial Perfusion Stress Tests (Thallium/Cardiolyte – in conjunction the Nuclear Medicine Division)
  • Ambulatory (for outpatients)
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
  • Signal Averaging EKG
  • 24-Hour Holter Monitor
  • Tilt Table Testing
  • Pacemaker and Defibrillator evaluations
  • Electrophysiology
  • Cardiac Catheterization

Availability of Necessary Staff

The Division of Cardiology operates on a 24 hour basis, seven (7) days of the week. Outpatient services are provided Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm and limited Outpatient services are provided on Saturdays between the hours of 8am-1pm.

Determining the Extent to Which Care Provided Meets Patient Needs

Patient Assessment Sheet is completed by staff on all patients before and after procedure. The Cardiologist will interpret all procedure results and will determine whether follow-up assessment will be required. The quality of patient care is monitored on a regular basis through the Department’s Performance Improvement Plan.
