Conditions We Treat

Our department of pulmonary medicine at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center offers a comprehensive set of treatments for a growing assortment of pulmonary and respiratory conditions.

One of the largest issues facing people in this community is asthma. Even mild asthma can prove to be a debilitating issue for young and old people alike in New York. With our advanced facilities, Wyckoff is a center that can help you and your family with asthmatic issues to help prevent serious problems, while being located close by in the neighborhood.

Being so conveniently located in the area also becomes extremely helpful for the ever-serious problem of pneumonia. Citizens of Brooklyn and Queens not only deserve, but need a quality care center for when they and their loved ones come down with such a troubling affliction. Our pulmonary specialists have decades of experience treating patients of all ages with pneumonia, and can help your family too.

Our physicians are also well-versed in the world of sleep disorders. Should a respiratory-related sleep disorder such as sleep apnea arrive, we have the means to help test for it, diagnose it, and quickly get you started on the best ways to treat serious disorders such as these.

Wyckoff”s pulmonary and respiratory sleep doctors can help with other serious and traumatic conditions, such as respiratory failure. We also have the physicians and facilities to help patients with lung cancer and tumors. Located in the heart of Bushwick, we offer the community a state-of-the-art facility to help the community in instances like these, when they need it the most.

Some of the conditions our pulmonary medicine department can help you and your loved ones with include:

  • Thoracic malignancies
  • Lung cancer

COPD Treatment

Perhaps the most common pulmonary condition seen at Wyckoff is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, better known as COPD. COPD worsens tremendously over time and negatively impacts your ability to breathe healthily. We want our community to be aware of the dangers of COPD, and as such we make it a top priority.

At Wyckoff, we do our part to promote awareness of COPD, as letting it go untreated and shrugging it off as a one-time case of bronchitis can be extremely difficult. We frequently do COPD screenings, and are among the top-ranked medical centers in the state for the work we do. With awareness, we can help prevent further cases of COPD, which can be caused by excessive smoking. And with treatment by our physicians, we can help improve quality of life for years to come.

Inpatient and Outpatient

One of the greatest strengths of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center’s pulmonary department is its reach. We’re able to perform an enormous amount of diagnostic tests, medical treatments, and surgeries, including:

  • Evaluation of patients with shortness of breath
  • Bronchoscopy Guided Lung Biopsies
  • Thoracentesis
  • Pleural biopsy
  • CT guided needle lung biopsy
  • Ventilator management With state of the Art Ventilators
  • The newest techniques in non-invasive and invasive ventilator support using advanced technology
  • Complete pulmonary function testing in our pulmonary laboratory
  • State-of-the-art radiation therapy for lung cancer, including Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

This is due to the fact that we not only have a state-of-the-art inpatient facility for dealing with serious pulmonary issues that require extensive time (such as respiratory failure and pneumonia) but also three different outpatient offices throughout Brooklyn and Queens.

This allows for CAT scans and MRIs, including LDCT scans of the lungs to detect cancer. We offer a variety of advanced types of bronchoscopies to help with diagnostic testing, as well as high-flow oxygen therapy for those seeking non-invasive treatments. We also perform standard pulmonary function tests for lung strength – appointments for those can be scheduled by calling (718) 963-7282.

If you live in Brooklyn or Queens and are in need of pulmonary treatment, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center may be able to help you. Our experienced staff of pulmonologists is a phone call or email away. Call to schedule an appointment at (718) 963-7676 or contact us via our website.
